Designer Babies

Read this article Designer Babies. Ethical? Inevitable?
Reply to this post in a comment about how you feel about this article. No need to summarize, as all of us are reading the same article.

Specifically:
1. Should the choosing of a child's genetics be allowed?
2. Is it ethical to destroy the unwanted embryos?
3. Would you use this process on your own children if you knew that you had a specific genetic disease?

NO, the choosing of a child genetics should be left to no one. It should come naturally and not chosen.
It is very unethical to destroy unwanted embryos because technically they are still living.
I would not, because I wouldn't want to change my children, unless I knew that the treatment would be an absolute success, only heal the genetic disease and do nothing more.

I think this is the next evolution of our species. We have no longer to worry about genetic diseases that will certainly result in the increase of the longevity of our species. And plus no offense to gay people but they found the gene that makes people gay and they can turn that off to so everybody can be "normal". In my personal opinion i would say that it's unethical to allow nature to take it's course when it comes to the birth of a human. why allow the possibility for a baby or any human kind to develope a disease that can be completely preventable? Of course the religious people will completely object to it, call it playing god but I thind science is science and religion is religion.

i think it should not be allowed.
it is not ethical because how can you destroy something thats in your body . i wouldnt want to do this treatment because id want my children to stay the way they are , and personnaly i wouldnt trust this treatment untill they show us proof that it works a 100percent.

yes but it should not be abused like making your child int half human half rat their should be laws how and maximum changes that are allowed.
yes because they do not feel anything theire still to young if you are sure they will not feel anything why not but it is sick to kill an embreyo no because your not sure if they will survive or not and if youre going to die than you will die even with an embreyo.

I believe that people can use the choosing of a child's genetics to keep them from dying and that is okay in my opinion. It starts becoming a problem when people enhance their children's genes to change their physical feature. I also believe it is unethical to destroy unwanted embryos. People need to live with their mistakes and if they don't want kids then make smart choices with your life. I think if I was 100% certain that altering my baby's genes would guarantee that they don't get any diseases I might do it.

I think as long as its used very carefully and only for very serious conditions such as removing the know existence of cancer its acceptable.
Killing unwanted embryos is like killing part of a baby.
Depending on if i could just treat the disease without changing anything else about my baby.. i want my baby to be just how its supposed to be!

Should choosing if your kid will be smart or dumb before born? no that is absolutely wrong. if you take out who they are before they are born they will barely be human. they will not be born the way they were originally meant to be.
No it's not ethical because they are alive no matter how small!
Yea i think if the operation worked then i would take out the possibility for them to get the type of disease.

No, children are made the way God wants them to be, and it isn't up to us to change that. That being said, if it was 100% sure that by changing my child's genes, it would prevent him/her from inheriting a deadly genetic disease, I think I most likely would choose to do that. But that is only for genetic diseases, and only if it works 100% of the time.
I think it is completely unethical to discard unwanted embryos, because it is basically equivalent to committing murder. Just because they are small and undeveloped doesn't mean that they aren't human.

Genetic screening is a reality, and the question is not if we agree with it but to what extent to do we agree. I do believe that sometimes it would be a wiser choice to opt for choosing a child's genetics. However, on one hand I do encourage progress, but on the other I do NOT encourage discremination. If in any way this new technology will be used to choose physically or intellectualy 'better' children I will strongly oppose it. I think it should only be used with limits. As an example,if there is a case of uncurable or fatal disease that will affect an embryo I do think that the parents should know and should be able to make a choice. I think it is not wrong to destroy not 'unwanted' but at least 'diseased' embryos, and there for I do think it is ethical. However, ethics is a very vague subject; right and wrong is extremy relative. I would certainly use this process on my 'children'in an effort of tmproving the human race.

I think it shouldn't be allowed, because first you can't destroy something in your body, and second: What if the treatment didn't success? Personally, I wouldn't want to do it until they find more proofs.

i think choosing child genetics should be an options for some parents.because i wouldnt like my child to have a killing diseases.if i knew that my son or daughter will have a disease from me then i would definently choose this option.it's ethical to destroy some embroyes if the form any kind of danger for the human body.why not?

I believe that You need to leave the embrio be, unless keeping it would result in a life threatening disease.
mmy ethical desisions lie on that If its not life threatening those i want to have my own baby with its own little quirks that makes him special.
I would accept the process if my children would have a genetical disease

1) It is okay to chage genetics to avoid a diseas .. but i don't think it is ok to change genetics for apearances ..
2)I think unwanted embroyos should be killed because there not alive yet so it is ok .. and even if they wor .. IF the familly can't afford the baby then the baby would suffer so it is better to destroy unwanted embryos
3)Yes i would because i would do anything to assure to my child a happy life

i think it shouldn't be allowed because we can't make are own children,it god who make are children, and you can't destroy something taht on youre body, unless if sombody has genetical problem, that will be another situation. If they show me that it 100percent working ,i think i might use it if my son was sick.

Babies should be left alone. God made them in a special way just the way he wants them and we shouldn't put our small brains in his business.

NO i do not think that choosing your cilds gentics is good first it looses the charm of guessing what your child would look like and stuff like that this subject also interfers with religonand culture and stuff like that .it is sorta wrong i guess cause you are destroying a persons life.No absoulotetly not if god wants my child to be sick then thats whats going to happen
