Materials:
3 paper towels
1 clear cup (plastic or glass)
water
4 beans
1. Fold a paper towel in half. Fold it in half again, lengthwise. use it to line the inside of the cup.
2. Stuff wads of paper in towels in the center of the cup. Pour water on the towels to make them wet.
3. Poke the seeds down between the lining and the cup.
Put the seeds at equal distances around the cup (see your notes from class).
Arrange the seeds in the positions indicated from class (also see your notes from class).
4. Place the cup in a warm place. Observe the seeds daily for one week. Keep the towels moist.
5. Draw and describe how the roots grew in your notebook using the instructions from class.
Explain your results:
1. What direction did the roots grow.
2. Interpret Data: What might you conclude about the effect of gravity on the growth of roots?
