Okay, new idea. Since most of your grades are going to be destroyed by article summaries, I have a new plan. There will be one post this grading period for each grade. You must post 4 different article summaries by 12:30 on April 30th. This means that you can post 4 in a row, or one a week, or any combination that you desire. If you have already submitted articles, they will still count.
Also, you must post one response to another student's article summary. This means that if nobody turns in an article summary until the last minute, all of you will lose points.
In conclusion, by April 30th, 12:30, you will have 4 article summaries and 1 response to another student's summary. That is worth 25 points, or close to a test grade. Easy, right?
Enjoy,
Mr. Mills
P.S. There are already some articles posted if you look.

Meryem Bousfiha: This is my 2nd article this 6 weeks.
My article is about Darwin and his ideas about evolution.
In the nintenth century, most people started out and began to think about evolution. Darwin has carried it, and made theories about it which has been accepted and soon were tested as being true.
He read a book and was later convinced by his proof that uniformitarianism provided the correct understanding of the earth's geological history. What made him start with his theory was taht he has found species in no other part of the world, though like ones exist on other places. Darwin was shocked by the fact that the birds were slightly different from one island to another. He realized that the reason to why this difference existed has something to do with the fact that the various species live in different kinds of environments. He has found other species like birds that have different kind of beeks which make them adapt more to their environment. So he thought that they changed their beeks overtime, just so that they could adapt more to their environment. So he thoughjt that traits which you are born with are the traits that will be passed to your offspring.
I agree with this and the theory of Darwin. I find it make a lot more sense than Lemarcke's. I also belive in evolution, that organisms has been changing over time. I find this article very important because it explains everyhting about life, and how life started. How we are now and how we changed over time. I also like the way how Darwin looked around him , and thought about all the same species that have variations which can make them adapt to their actual environment.
So its very interesting.... ;)

Peanut allergies are among the most common and most dangerous food allergies. A tiny exposure to peanuts can mean big trouble for a person with a peanut allergy, with symptoms ranging from sneezing or coughing to the constriction, or narrowing, of airways. Some people die from the exposure.
But a tiny exposure may help scientists find a cure. A recent study suggests that some children may be able to beat back their allergic reactions to peanuts by gradually introducing trace amounts of the nut into their diets. It’s too early to say for certain, so if you have a peanut allergy, do not try this at home. But the first results look promising.
Two teams of scientists have been experimenting on a group of 29 children, with an average age five years old, who are allergic to peanuts. At the beginning of the study, each kid received less than 1/1,000th of a peanut per day. (Imagine splitting a peanut into 1,000 parts!) Over the course of the study, the children gradually increased the amount of peanuts in their diets. At home, their parents sprinkled peanut powder on their food, and in the laboratory, the children drank solutions with peanuts dissolved inside.
Nine of the children have been receiving the treatment for two years. Five of those nine now appear to be free of their peanut allergies, says Wesley Burks, a pediatric allergist and immunologist at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C. These five kids can eat peanuts with no problem. “They are putting peanuts in their diet,” Burks says.
Of those nine, the other four have not benefited as much from the therapy. Burks and his team will release data from the other 20 children in the study later this year.
The two teams of scientists are now doing a follow-up study on two groups of children with the allergy. Children in one group will receive the gradual peanut therapy, and the others will not. Burks and the other researchers hope this study will help them learn if the therapy truly works or not.
The study raises many questions, both from parents of children with the allergies and from other doctors. Scott Sicherer, an allergist at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, asks, “Have we really cured the allergy, or are [the patients] just desensitized while they are getting the treatment?”
Scientists don’t understand why some people get peanut allergies and others don’t, but they’re scrambling to find a way to help people with the allergy. Because of the severity of a peanut allergy, scientists want to know as soon as possible. “This is very encouraging, but it’s not something you try at home,” says Sicherer.

I already sent two article summaries; i will post the other two right now.
3rd article summary:
Worms Control Lifespan At High Temperatures
+It has long been known that cold-blooded animals die faster as the temperature of their environment increases. However, contradicting popular belief that the aging happened 'passively' just like a chemical reaction, we know now that these animals have a much greater role in reducing the effects of such enviromental changes than previously thought. A research has shown that heat-sensing neurons regulate their bodies' response to the heat and actually reduce its impacts on the life span.
This article is important beacause it demonstrates an important similarity between cold and warm-blooded animals. Just like warm-blooded animals control their temperature to adapt to their environment, ectotherms use other mechanisms to do the same. It may also be an evolutionary link between the two.

4th article:Ocean Dead Zones Likely To Expand
A new research reveals even more dangers of increased CO2 in our atmosphere. It shows that dead zones, or zones with low-oxygen concentrations, in the ocean are increasing and are expected to increase even more in the years to come. The primary reason of such dramatic circumstances is the high levels of CO2 caused by human activities. This CO2 is being absorbed by the oceans, and as a result not only sea water is becoming more acidic, but less oxygen is able to be absorbed in the depths of the ocean due to more warm and stable surfaces. These effects of increased CO2 make it hard for marine creatures to respire (extract oxygen) and could endager their lives.
This article is important because the changes in CO2 are harming submarine life in dramatic ways, and awareness about the subject should be spread. The aquatic ecosystem is in serious danger and could influence other ecosystems as well. That is just another reason why CO2 levels should decrease!
wiam bousfiha :
According to a study which appears April 20 in the International Journal of Epidemiologybeing that skiny is good for the environment .
Being skiny will make the production of food decrease and also the production of greenhouse gases because food production is a major contributor to global warming. It takes less energy to transport skiny people so Transport-related emissions will also decrease. Some studies had shown that population of 1 billion people would emit 1.0 GT less carbon dioxide equivalents per year compared with a fat one.
This conclude that if we want to save our environment and our health we have to make sure to dont gain weight .
NADA
Iam going to make a comment about Wiam's article.I disagree about what she said about skinny people, I just want to add some facts. I never found skinny girls attractive we can see just bones. And plus statistics shows that "BIG" girls make better lovers, they are not timid about sex and how to please a man. They are more friendly and caring. They are always there for you and believe in true friendship. Skinny girls are more materialistic, and just want to date someone because he has a motocycle or he is famous. She knows that she could get any man she wants, so she doesn't care about your fellings and true emotions.
I rather have double food production or just fake people and girls, what the point of having different culture, and different mentality if I travel and I see the same faces !!!!!
wiam :
i am going to write my third and fourth article in this six week.
Girls from all around the world esperience sexual harassement but some girls preceive sexism as an environmental problem or as evidence of their own shortcomings.
Girls have different levels of understanding sexual harrassement .they did a study of 600 girls between 12 years old and 18 years old from california and georgia from diffrent races.90 percent said that they experienced a sexual harrassemnt but most of them did not know what is the differnt between sexual harrassment and sexiesm which affected the data.Brown and
leaper said that it is important for girls to know the difference because then they suffer fron erosion of self-esteem and sometimes too much sexual harrassment can make girls accept and expect behaviors in heterosexual romantic relationships, and sexist remarks.
the other article:
Arndt Borkhardt(who i am sure is cute just by his name )and some students at
Heinrich Heine University had identifies two turkish girls who died after being affected by EBV which is one of the most common viruse to infect human.
The viruse a little bit of signs of infection and sometimes no signs of infection, but they realized that the girls had a mutation in both copies of their ITK gene that rendered them deficient in ITK protein.
this conclude that
ITK is the cause of EBV develop a fatal lymphoproliferative disease.
I am going to do a comment on seth s last summary about chocolate because i love chocolate .
Seth said that chocolate make you smarter and that they had proved that eating chocolate make work on math faster .this is really good because there is a lot of people who don t eat chocolate because they are affraid to gain weight (like me ) but kmowimg that chocolate does not just make you fat but has somt positive effects on our mind but not our body .The choice is yours if you want your physic(being skiny and not fat ) or your brain(being smart and have A s in math ) !After all we have to eat a little bit of everything because everything has also a good side in ou body.Enjoy chocolate!by the way i am going to eat one !:)

This is my 3rd article summary. huzzah.
This article describes how scientists have recently discovered that birds can read humans eyes and body language. This is incredibly creepy, because with skills like that birds could start a revolution and take over the world. Even if they don't take over the world, it's kinda scary knowing that birds can tell what we're doing.
http://www.livescience.com/health/090428-wimps-noises.html
This is my 4th article summary. HUZZAH FOR ME!!
This article claims that scrawny people are more scared by scary noises than "larger" people. I think this is preposterous because i have seen many fat people who were super frieked out when i would sneak up on them and go "BOO". But if this is true, then skinny people should not watch scary movies or explore haunted houses.
THE END
I think Wiam's article is probably true, but not it's not likely that everyone is gonna stop eating and thin down. Also, eating is one of my favorite activities, so if eating lots of food makes it a bit more expensive to travel, then it's totally worth it for me. ;)
Ayoub Nour:this is my first article summary.
My article about stem cell and healing.
According to a theory by Professor Mohammad Ilyas, stem cell markers could help speeding up wound healing in patients suffering from inflammatory bowel disease(IBD),that mean it could help people that suffering from scarring, bowel obstructions and tumour growth and other complicated wounds; According to the study they're working in developing a new kind of drugs that uses natural molecules to spark the recovery of patients that suffer from persistent inflammation and kinda of damage stuff, so eventually we could have healing power that could save the humanity in the future from desparing and make people live much longer, and why not an immortal life .Hahha, i was just kidding.

Cell Phone Ultrasound Device 'Tricorder'
A small handheld ultrasound probe used in conjunction with a Windows-based mobile phone may provide proof-of-concept for what amounts to a 'tricorder' like those seen in the 1960's era Star Trek television show. Washington University computer engineers have tweaked every aspect of ultrasound probe design and operation - from power consumption and data transfer rate to image formation algorithms.
The result is a smartphone-compatible USB ultrasound probe. This can be plugged into a standard Microsoft Windows mobile-based smartphone and the operator can immediately image the kidney, the liver, the bladder and the eyes using the screen on the smartphone.
This one is a revolutionary new advancement that could help emergency response crew. music.
in recent studies the Dept of Homeland Security's Science & Technology Directorate has taken it into their own hands to research the effects of music on the mind. Many different organizations have done this but not to the extent that these guys have done it. what these guys have done is taken brain waves from the brain and then translate them into music played by instuments, such as the piano. these expiriements have been proved to increase productivity
i think that this advancement is a very useful thing, i myself have been listening to this sound track three times and feel more concentrated than normal. if they can get some hard facts on this all of us teenagers can finally say that we do concentrate better with music

2nd article summary
cloning
Cloning is defined as the making of a precise copy of a molecule, cell, or individual plan or animal. The scientific benefits of cloning are endless and know no boundaries. The reason that it knows no boundaries is because not all forms of cloning are legal yet. I believe that if the world would allow cloning we would benefit in numerous ways. The original definition for cloning was defined by Dr. Ian Wilmut. He is the person who cloned the first live animal to adulthood. He cloned a sheep and named it Dolly. The news was made public in 1997 when the animal was two years old. "Wilmut himself, however, is not an advocate of human cloning, and designed his revolutionary technology with one idea in mind: manufacturing herds of animals for human use. In Wilmut's words, "The biotechnology industry exists to use genetic information to cure disease and improve agriculture". Some people thought that cloning was a new technology that had been developed in the past five to six years. This of course was false. Scientists have been cloning human and animal genes and cells for decades.
I think that malaks article about cold blooded animals is true, for the most part. i believe that the environment directly effects the outcome of the lives of animals. and i also think that the world becoming warmer place also affects the lifespan of animals. I would only add one thing to her argument, their needs to be a broader view on this subject. I know that the sole reason for the decrease in reptile life can be traced back to humanity, so why just limit it to global warming. the broader view would include, industrialization, urbanization and many other things that cause folks to take down natural habitats of things on this earth that are intrinsically valuble to humanity.

nano size it baby.
a chinese scientist by the name of Yang Xiang has creates a nano needle the length of 50 nanometer by the means of coating a nanotube of boron nidtride with gold and then leting the molecular bonds do their jobs. scientists say will help to make it easier to examine the inside of cells making easier for research.
i believe this will help to an extent depending on what the expirement is on, because i see no good in trying to ruin aperfectly good cell my poking it open.
resent studies have concluded that in the area of dieting and fats. if you eat a substance rich in fat (in moderation) then those lipids directly convert into memory cells which are the cells that make up the brain and its memory. this means that is is easier to remember things once you have learned them..
this is critical when one is trying to remember things in math and science that are imperitive to passing
super has a new name ladies and gentlemen. its called coral reefs.
off the coast of tanzinia on the east coast of africa a coral reef that has been dealt extensive damage from the environment, and bleaching has just reported that it has become completely resilient in different area's. in some cases the reef has actually become stronger than normal.
this is a very good thing because it ensures that the earth is sustaining some sort of balance because everyone knows that if the there is an extreme inbalance in the world nature will start to take effect and we will all pay for it.

Do you believe that our brain manufactures proteins that act like marijuana; the discovery was when some scientists extracts several small proteins called peptides from the brains of mice and they wanted dtermine the sequence of their amino acid, so they took the extracted proteins and they then compared to another peptide previosuly known to bind to the receptor THC affected by marijuana, and they discovered out of the extracted proteins, some of them just not bound to the brain it actually activated them also; so actually was right after all when he says "everybody must get stoned", imagine if everyperson in earth get high in some part of his life that will be cool.I was just kidding, marijuana kills brain cell, and that is not cool.

in recent years a study of the exoplanets in other star systems may have found a planet that can sustain life. this planet called Gliese 581 d. and from high powerd telescope people have determined that this is quite posibly the shiniest planet ever discoverd, which may point to the conclusion that it has large bodies of water that reflect its sun very well. ultimately scientists say this could mean their could be a life sustaining planet out there.
i believe that this is very good because the need to find extraterrestrial life is something that has always plagued the minds of every human, are we alone, well now the answer is.. maybe not.

Cigarets contole you when u start smocking
Cigarettes affect your entire body in a negative way. Eight seconds after you inhale cigarette smoke, nicotine reaches your brain and stimulates pleasure centers. You like the feeling, so you smoke again. Your body eventually builds up a tolerance for tobacco and you need more to get the good feeling. Eventually, you realize how much you're harming your body and you decide to quit. But not smoking gives you headaches and makes you grouchy, restless, depressed and hungry. You're addicted, and the chances for you to quit are very low. So don't start; its the key to get rid of cigarets !

Poor ladies =D
Between ages 35 and 50, the levels of two female hormones, estrogen and progesterone, start to change. The shifting levels of hormones may cause you to skip periods, have irregular bleeding, or both. You may also have such symptoms as hot flashes, mood swings, sleep problems, and painful intercourse. You can still get pregnant during this time, so you may want to use some method of birth control. Menopause occurs when you stop menstruating for good. Most women reach menopause in their late 40s or early 50s. If you have not had a period for at least 1 year, you are likely to be in menopause. At this point, your hormone levels drop so you are no longer producing eggs. Once this happens, there is no chance of becoming pregnant.

the article about why our hair turn gray when we get older.
According to the scientists goin gray is caused by a massive build up of hydrogen peroxide due to wear and tear of our hair follicles, all of our hair cells make a tiny litle bit of this hydrogen preoxide, and as we get older and older, thise tiny little bit became alot, so we go gray than white, so depressing; but that will be a problem for me because by then, eventually scientists will discover a way to pervent it, and i will be the first one to try it.=D
Ayoub Nour: the respond article.
I think Seth article about skinny people scared from scary noises is wrong, and what Seth thinks that fat people scared from scary noises is wrong too; i believe scary noises are scary for everyone no matter how skinny or large they are, its about mind respond; my theory is that if you wach alot of scary movies your responf for a scary noises is less than someone who dont watch it at all, because a scary noise will be something new for someone who dont watch, and he will freak out.

A new research suggests that when you turn you TV on to watch your favorite film or series, it can actually help you overcome your loneliness and sadness.
Several studies had been made about the self reaction when you are watching TV, it was based on the self-reports of some college students. Four new studies indicate that when you feel related to one of the fictional characters in the movie it affects your mood in real life. Some college students reported that students who have been writing their 10 min essays about their favorite TV show actually expressed FEWER feelings of sadness, and depression. Latest studies also showed that when someone sis thinking about his or her favorite TV program he can actually protect him/herself from poor self esteem, and decrease the negative mood.
This article is very important for the people who sometimes think about suicide, and usually are depressed it can actually help their moment of depression just by one click on the TV remote.
It is very accurate because it’s taken from Live science.com whose website is known for their accuracy in the information, and it’s taken from the “Journal of Experimental Social Psychology.”

Latest studies done by scientist suggest the forests that were once dominated by this nation were full of trees such as chestnuts, hemlocks and white pines on the East Coast and conifers such as redwoods and Douglas were ALL fired on the West Coast.
10 Years ago you had hemlocks that were six or seven feet in diameter, chestnut tress 200 feet tall. Now and Even if the nation still support plantation of trees you can just see the smaller tress that have been replaced but nothing like the ancient forests. As Deforestation leveled native tress, scientist found diseases that were developing like:
Dutch elm disease devastated American elms.
The emerald ash borer has killed millions of ash trees.
Trees are vital, and good for the environment it also help with the Global warming of the earth. They play an important role in the doing half the photosynthesis of the Earth, it also provide shade that can cool down houses in the summer and save you some money.
We all need to collaborate and save our planet from deforestation.

I find wiam's article about sexual harassment and sexism very interesting because it deals with social issues that we experience daily in Morocco. I agree that awareness about the subject should be spread! It is very true that many people do not know precisely what sexual harassement and sexism is all about and can't understand the difference.

response to Seth's article about birds-
I think it's kind of freakily cool that birds can read human emotions. I sometimes can't even read human emotions and the fact that birds can feel these types of things is really cool to me.
Article summary 2-
This article talks about 10 deadly diseases that spread across the US and killed many species. While the swine flu outbreak is the latest example, a host of infectious and deadly diseases have hopped from animals to humans and from humans to animals. These diseases usually start in open markets or farms and should be closely watched and controled so they don't spread further. These diseases have been one of the main reasons for so many deaths in the past couple of years.
Article summary 3-
This article talked about how lonely people sometimes find comfort in TV characters. I find this fascinating because I can't imagine how TV characters can replace actual people. TV characters are like the friends that lonely people never had. When they watch TV they seem to go some sort of other world, one that exists inside the TV and they apparently like that better. Some studies have shown that people actually replace real people in their lives by ones on TV and that is incredibly depressing! :(
Article summary 4-
My next article is about the internet. People are continuously looking for ways to expand the internet and make it more usable for people everywhere. In the western world pretty much everyone uses the internet. However in some places in Africa only 5% of people use the web. Globally only 23% of people use the internet. As you can see there is lots of room for the internet to expand and become more useful. I think the internet would be very good for people who need to use it.
