Okay, new idea. Since most of your grades are going to be destroyed by article summaries, I have a new plan. There will be one post this grading period for each grade. You must post 4 different article summaries by 12:30 on April 30th. This means that you can post 4 in a row, or one a week, or any combination that you desire. If you have already submitted articles, they will still count.
Also, you must post one response to another student's article summary. This means that if nobody turns in an article summary until the last minute, all of you will lose points.
In conclusion, by April 30th, 12:30, you will have 4 article summaries and 1 response to another student's summary. That is worth 25 points, or close to a test grade. Easy, right?
Enjoy,
Mr. Mills
P.S. There are already some articles posted if you look.

A man in Russia recently went to the doctor complaining of chest pain, and the doctor found a two inch fir tree growing in the mans lungs. The doctor hypothesized that the man inhaled the seed, and it then grew.
I think this is extremely important because if we figured out a way to grow food in our lungs then we would never need to feed ourselves again, the food could just keep growing and feeding us. It is an interesting concept to think that plants could grow inside your body.
Peanut allergies are the most dangerous food allergies. A small experience could cause big trouble for a person with a peanut allergy, with symptoms ranging from sneezing or coughing to the constriction or narrowing, of airways. Some people die from the experience. But a small experience may help scientists find a medicine for that. A new study suggests that some children may be able to beat back their allergic reactions to peanuts by slowly introducing trace amounts of the nut into their diets. It’s too early to say for certain, so if you have a peanut allergy, do not try this at home. Scientists don’t understand why some people get peanut allergies and others don’t, but they’re running to find a way to help people with the allergy. Because of the severity of a peanut allergy, scientists want to know as soon as possible. This is very encouraging, but it’s not something you try at home.
When you look at your food, some ingredients are easy to see. For example, there is obviously milk in your cereal and cheese on your pizza. But your meals are also filled with ingredients you can’t see. And you might be surprised to learn just how much those hidden items affect your health. Salt is a perfect example of an ingredient that you might not notice, even when you eat a lot of it. Sometimes, salt is obvious. You can see it on pretzels. You can taste it on french fries. But it’s the salt we can’t see that concerns scientists most. Doctors have warned patients that too much salt can be bad for their hearts. Still, most Americans continue to eat a lot of salt. That’s because more than 75 percent of the salt we eat is hidden in restaurant meals, fast food, such as spaghetti, pizza... And you can’t notice that the salt is there. Parents didn’t worry a lot about kids eating too much salt, but new research suggests that salt is starting to affect kids in their hearts and kidneys. Potato-chips, hot dogs, canned tuna, and food that is filled with salt could set young people up for even more health problems. Salt is made up of two elements or basic components: sodium and chlorine. When we put into our food, the salt breaks up into two elements: sodium and chloride. The chlorine part of salt isn’t that important. It’s the sodium that can make trouble. Our body needs a small amount of sodium to keep our muscles working and our nerves sending messages throughout the body. But the amount of sodium we actually need is really small: about 500 milligrams, or less. A little bit goes a long way.
This is extremely important because a lot of people don’t know that too much salt could affect their body.
Resveratrol and SRT1720 are two chemical drugs that may slow some effects of aging; you can eat more than you should, stay skinny, and run twice as far. Both resveratrol and SRT1720 are being tested as a way to treat type-two diabetes first, and possibly other age-related diseases, later. These compounds are mimicking calorie restriction and exercise while lowering levels of glucose and insulin in mice. The European scientists tested SRT1720 in two groups of mice. The mice were first divided into two groups: control group and test group. They gave to the control group two doses of SRT1720: 100mg or 500mg. the control group gained no weight. The cholesterol levels of the mice on the drug also improved. They also recorded the animals’ exercise habit. Mice without SRT1720 ran for about half a mile. Mice given 100mg ran roughly seven-tenths of a mile. And mice on 500mg of SRT1720 were able to run a full mile and twice the distance of untreated mice.
This drug is very important because it’s an Anti Aging pill; it helps you more in your life. They did the experiment on the mice, and they figure out that it’s working, if it works on people, I guess everyone would like to buy it.
Researchers at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem have found a way to maintain the pain-killing strenght of morphine over an long period of time, thus providing a solution for the problem of having to give alot of dosages of the drug in order to keep its effectiveness.
this is very important because millions of peoples die in hospitals because of an overdose in morphine.morohine ca be very dangrous esspecailly if u overdose on it!!!!!!!

i am commenting on what joel said !
that is extremly weird but then that will be neat at the same time if u just grew our food inside of us we dont have to waste money on groceries every week and all and it alo can sieze the starvation problem all over the world!!

Most schools ban chewing gum, but in a few years they might consider changing that rule. Scientists are finding proofs that gum chewing may be good for your health. It may even help improve your test scores. This exciting research is just beginning. And in the meantime, companies are also testing with adding vitamins, minerals, medicines, and other stuff that could give gum the power to treat headaches and fight everything from serious diseases to bad breath. These better gums are part of the growing number of foods and drinks that contain health-boosting ingredients. If you're already a gum fan, that's probably a good news.
People have been chewing gum for thousands of years. Ancient Greeks, Mayas, and Native Americans, for example, chewed on the sap, or resin, of certain types of trees. Today, gum is a little more complicated. Gum companies start by mixing resin, wax, and a molecule called polyvinyl acetate to make a gum base. By varying the types and amounts of these ingredients, scientists can make thousands of methods. Giant mixers then combine tubs of melted gum base with powders, syrups, and sweeteners. Other machines roll the goo into sticks or press them into balls or other shape. Covering or Packaging is the final step. Many studies show that chewing gum after meals fights cavities by stimulating the production of saliva. Saliva helps wash away bacteria that damage our teeth. It also offers other benefits. An ingredient called xylitol or xylital, which is added to some gums, provides an extra dose of cavity-fighting power. This is good for more than just the teeth. Research suggests that good oral health decreases the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and other serious diseases.
This article is important because schools banned chewing gums in class, and this information might help some people to change this rule, and most of people will love eating in it class. It also says that it’s good for diabetes, and the risk of hurt disease.
The certanly very popular theory that the Chicxulub crater holds the clue to the extiction of the dinosaurs, along with some 65 percent of all species 65 million years ago, is challenged in a paper to be published in the Journal of the Geological
if they are not certain that the crater is the one that destroyed the dinasours.then should we believe anything else they say???
iam on the side that says the crater is the on that destroyed all the dinsaours because the Yucutan thingy is very big and what ever made that should have had enough power to destroy any living thing on earth i a secound just think it over and u will see that iam right!!!!

researches say that laughter is a good medicine. To test this out they split up these 2 diabetes group into two that have hypertension and hyperlipidemia . the first group was treated with humor while the other group was not . by 2 months, they found out that the laughing group had lower levels of the hormones epinephrine and norepinephrine than the others.
I think that this article is important because, its easy and its not something to spend money on and anyone can do it!!

Scientist have found out that gloomy days are good for the brain. They noticed that people do better in memory tests during lousy weather , when they are grumpy.it is stated that it is good to be sad sometimes.
I like this article cuz everyone thinks and prefers the opposite and its very interesting . I think we should do all of our tests on gloomy days so we could get higher grades!! :P

It is said that facebook users get worse grades in college.Aryn Karpinski said that teenagers who go on facebook study for 1 to 5 hours while non- facebook users study for 11 to 15 hours. She also said that she isnt sure if facebook is the only reason for less grades and less study time ( so dont worry abbie).
I think that this article contains very important information because in this generation most people go on facebook every SINGLE day (*cough* Abbie ) :)

In liverpool, leon airport will soon become the worlds first to try recycling the passengers breath to biofuel.
the eco-box traps the carbon dioxide and converts it to fuel for airport machinery.
This article is important because they wont have to spend a lot of money on fuel . !!! :)

a new baby born bunny was born with 2 noses. the owner said he never saw anything like it . he says it acts no different than all the other bunnies. he hops and eats like all the other bunnies like nothing was wrong with him .
I dont think that this is importnat beacause who cares if a bunny is born with 2 noses.!! i liked it because it was weird .......!!! :D :) :D

scientists have made a new innvention , its lik a helmet that reads the humans mind and the robot moves his arm.
i think that this articel is important cause they created a robot that can do wat humans do!! :D its AWESOME !!!! :p
A possible Dark Material Detected?
When dark matter is destroyed, it leaves behind a burst of exotic particles, according to theory. Now scientists have found a possible signature of these remains. The discovery could help prove the existence of dark matter and reveal what it's made of.
No one knows what dark matter is, but scientists think it exists because there is not enough gravity from visible matter to explain how galaxies rotate.
I found this article important because, there would be signs on how the galaxy actually rotates. This would also expand the human knowledge about the ouetr space.
http://www.livescience.com/strangenews/090428-glowing-dogs.html
South Korean scientists claim to have created four glowing dogs. They planted fluorescent genes into the eggs, and now when put under ultraviolet light the dogs glow red.
I find this very important because it could keep many worried dog owners from losing track of their dogs at night. Instead of spending many hours frantically searching for your little chihuahua in your yard, just hook up a ultraviolet light and look for the glowing colored blob.
Did Some Dinosaurs Survived The Asteroid Impact Millions of Years Ago??
The great splat of an asteroid that might have wiped out the dinosaurs apparently didn't get all of them. New fossil evidence suggests some dinosaurs survived for up to half a million years after the impact in remote parts of New Mexico and Colorado.Scientists recently analyzed dinosaur bones found in the Ojo Alamo Sandstone in the San Juan Basin. Based on detailed chemical investigations of the bones, and evidence for the age of the rocks in which they are found, the researchers think some dinosaurs outlived the crash that occurred 65 million years ago and stuck around for a while.
This article shocked me because, i never knew that a dinosaur could possibly live after a chaotic event!
i like joel's article cuz its funny but i dnt think its that important cuz there are other important things to worry abt,
hhhh! btw joel's article is the only one i could find !! :D
Hicham : I thik that the article contains very innteresting stuff..!!! Its really sad that some people DIE :( becuase they eat penuts !!! ummm.. that is it !!! :)
Hiidden Planet Discovered!
A new technique has uncovered an extrasolar planet hidden in Hubble Space Telescope images taken 11 years ago
The new strategy may allow researchers to uncover other distant alien worlds potentially lurking in over a decade's worth of Hubble archival data.
The method was used to find an exoplanet that went undetected in Hubble images taken in 1998 with its Near Infrared Camera and Multi-Object Spectrometer (NICMOS). Astronomers knew of the planet's existence from images taken with the Keck and Gemini North telescopes in 2007 and 2008, long after Hubble snapped its first picture of the system
This article is so important because it tells that people are starting to know things beyond our surroundings.
Poor Climbers. HAHA!!!
Our ancient human ancestors traded in the ability to climb trees for the power to walk on two legs, but it is unclear when this happened in evolutionary time.
A new study could help pin down the timing of this exchange, revealing that human ancestors as far back as 4 million years ago didn't have quite the climbing skills of modern chimpanzees, so climbing was phasing out by this time.
The evidence: Early humans lacked the ankle structure that assists chimps in climbing, according to anthropologist Jeremy DeSilva of Worcester State College in Massachusetts.
I added this article because it's funny and gives us an image of what the early humans used to be.
http://www.livescience.com/health/090205-divorce-older.html
A recent study shows that women that go through a divorce look older than they would otherwise. Along with smoking and too much sun, getting divorced adds age to a face.
I think its going to be interesting now to try and guess which women have been divorced by the age of their face.
lolz!!
Joel's article is cool because i never knew that i could possibly grow a plant in my stomach! but.. does that mean.. the human intestines a minerals like the soil itself Mr.Mills?? o.O
tht's creepy!

In the past few years globlal warming began affecting the earth.
Global Warming is defined as the increase of the average temperature on Earth. As the Earth is getting hotter, disasters like hurricanes, droughts and floods are getting more frequent.Over the last 100 years, the average temperature of the air near the Earth´s surface has risen a little less than 1° Celsius (0.74 ± 0.18°C, or 1.3 ± 0.32° Fahrenheit). Does not seem all that much? It is responsible for the conspicuous increase in storms, floods and raging forest fires we have seen in the last ten years, though, say scientists.
I think that people have to watch out and take it seriously because i think that the world could be in the danger

Diabetes happens when Glucose (sample sugar) cant get to the bloodstream. A hormone called insulin is normally responsible for getting the Glucose to all the cells but in diabetics it doesn’t do it's job. Because of this sugar starts to build up in the bloodstream and causes a condition called chronic. There are two types of diabetes. Type 1 normally occurs in children and it's when the body doesn’t produce insulin. Type 2 normally occurs in adults and is when the insulin doesn’t work. People with type 1, diabetes are normally stuck with it for life. They have to take insulin shoot a few times a day while type 2 diabetics rely on drugs.
I think diabetes is really not cool because it puts a limit on how much sugar you can use. I do think it’s a good thing for people to stay health and for doctors to be working on a cure.

17 years ago a new type of virus was discovered.
The mimivirus has been called a possible "missing link" between viruses and living cells. It was discovered accidentally by French scientists in 1992 but wasn't confirmed to be a virus until 2003.The virus infects amoebas, but it is thought to possibly be a human pathogen because antibodies to the virus have been discovered in pneumonia patients. However, many details about the virus remain unknown, said Michael Rossmann, Purdue University's Hanley Distinguished Professor of Biological Sciences.
to save are self from this virus people have to more devlope the medicines before affecting people and then die.

Brown fat was thought to be only for babies and rats, but now they find it on humans. Adults store drown fat in neck, abdomen, above the collarbone and along the spine. Scans show that 3.1 adult males have brown fat but 7.5 females have it. Younger people are more likely to have it. In lower temperatures brown fat is more likey to appear. There are still not many thing known about this brown fat.
Brown fat is a confusing thing to me. I don’t really get the point or what it’s for. I guess when further research is done I’ll know more.

Bee can count!! studies have shown that bee's can understand patterns. Researches have set up different tests for the bee's to see how they can match the patterns. 70 % of the time they are right. They can only remember 3 patterns. 4 is to much for them.
I think it's cool that bee's are actually pretty smart! :D

This scientist doesnt get how in the survival of the fittest peacocks only have their fancy tails. Flying is harder with the tails and sprinting is slower. The females survive just fine in plain colors with no tail. The thing is they do help with finding a mate. Birds that are the most attractive end up with the most children.
I think it's cool how peacocks doesnt really benift in the survival of the fittest but looks good for the ladies! :D
(since i cant figure out how to comment on someone elses comment in doing it here to joels)
I think thats pretty cool that tree's can grow inside you. i think it should be studed more cuz what happens if you eat and apple core and and apple tree starts growing inside you and KILLS YOU??!!?! :/
ps. joel is not a beast! :)

This article talks about how sounds have been shown to scare scrawny people easier than larger people. A study showed that skinny people think sounds are closer than fat people.
While this wouldn't change life dramatically.. it could save a skinny person from getting run over by a cement truck while the fat person is squashed. You never can be sure. After reading the article.. it makes me glad im skinny.

today in my reaserch i will talk about a new kind of fuel without petroluem.
Alternative Fuel Vehicle refers to a vehicle that runs on a fuel other than traditional gasoline or diesel; any method of powering an engine that does not involve petroleum.
Due to a combination of heavy taxes on fuel, particularly in Europe, tightening environmental laws, particularly in California, and the possibility of further restrictions on greenhouse gas emissions, work on alternative power systems for vehicles has become a high priority for governments and vehicle manufacturers around the world. Current research and development is largely centered on "hybrid" vehicles that use both electric power and internal combustion.
with this new type of fuel it could more help people because fuel is geting more expensive, because less oil and petroluem. with this type of fuel it will get sheeper

One Virus Particle Is Enough To Cause Infectious Disease.
Can exposure to a single virus particle lead to infection or disease? Until now, solid proof has been lacking. Experimental research with insect larvae at Wageningen University and Simon Fraser University in Canada has shown that one virus particle is theoretically enough to cause infection and subsequent disease.
because of that many scientist had already created some medicines, but the problem is that in africa the price is expensive for them so i think that they have to lower the price or to give them the medicine for free.
nasa mad an new jet that could achieve supersonic speeds. they say it could achieve ten times the speed of sound.but the problem is that these kinds of jet go so fast that one mistake could be fatal. so nasa thought were going to make it auto pilot because computers never make mistakes. and what is really cool about this plain that it burns air for fuel, airplanes that burn air for fuel are called scramjets.
and engineers say that one day these airplanes could carry people to space or around the world in an matter of hours.
i think this isint a good idea because of these type of airplanes get realistic, the ingeneers are going to use this type of engine to do it in busses cars and all kinds of stuuf. and then that would hurt the envremint because transportation is very important so alot of people are going to use it, then the oxygen level is going to drop and bye bye earth.
morris county jan.5 this year an eleven year old girl saw 3 lights that apeared to be red in the sky after a whileone of the lights dissapeared. and it made national news. the father of the eleven year old girls said that he was 20 years in space aviation and never saw something like this before. then when people examenid the case they found out that it was haux and houx is when people trow big baloons in the air and act like it were ufos
i think this is good because then people can now the diffrence btwn real ufos and not so dont believe everything you see.
im commenting on joels comment about the russion guy.
wow i think this is very weird becaues like in fairy tail when somebody eats a seed and something grows in a somthing. so next time we need to pay atention when we eat water melon so we dont have a vegetabal grozing in our stomach.
ok mr mills you completly messed me up but here are my four article summaries:
article 1:
younger kids now can hava adults diseases.one example is diabetes.diabetes affect the way people proceess their food.and when children get this disease it's hard to live a normal life and they have to get shots several timzs a day.i think this is important and i agree because it's bad to have a disease like that that's going to keep you from eating a lot of stuff.
article summary 2:
in switezerlqnd some scientists found one more taste that we didn't know about.the taste of metal.the found out that their is proteins and molecules in our tounges that detect metal and can taste it.
i think it not that important but it's funny maybe few years later they will tell us that we can eat metal,or drink it.hahahhaha lol
article summary 3:
scientists or Paleontologists as they called them in the article as they were searching through a 95 million year old layers of rock found out a new kind of dinqsour species qnd prooved that dinosors didn't live only on earth surface they also lived underground.
i like the idea of dinosors living underground because it makes me think that dinosaurs are not scary.this is important.
article 4:
scientists has found out that our galxy the milky way spins way faster then we thought and heavier .
i think it's important to study about our galaxy because it's the place where we live.
i will comment about joel's article because it's intresting and it would be so awesome if i had a tree in my lungs i would love to be fed without moving.
